htaxess
This is the htaxess support page.
The mechanism most 'open' web-sites use for basic security is 'htaccess'.
With a (relatively) simple text file, you can specify the users that are
permitted to get into any page on a site. But it requires a little
co-ordination to get the syntax of the .htaccess file aligned with the
corresponding .htpasswd file, do the encryption of the passwords, and
keep track of changes. That's why I wrote htaxess. It does not make
any claims to high security, just protection against casual browsing.
It's a little clunky, partly because the architecture of .htaccess
scatters pieces of data all over the place, and partly because I was
learning Apache, CGI, perl, and htaccess as I wrote htaxess.
